Trump Extends Federal Crime Crackdown to Chicago, New York

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump declared on Friday that his administration plans to focus a federal crackdown on crime in Chicago and New York, while sharply criticizing Democratic governance in San Francisco.

“So, I think Chicago will be our next, and then we’ll help with New York,” Trump told reporters during an Oval Office briefing.

He further stated, “We're going to make our cities very, very safe. Chicago is a mess. You have an incompetent mayor, grossly incompetent, and we’ll straighten that one out, probably next … and it won’t even be tough.”

Trump also targeted San Francisco, saying, “Chicago and San Francisco, the two greatest cities in the world. Now, you look at what the Democrats have done to San Francisco. They’ve destroyed it.”

The president has credited his federal intervention in Washington, DC’s police operations with lowering crime rates, calling a week without murders a “miracle,” despite polls indicating local opposition to federal troop deployments, which he dismissed as “fake news.”

His comments follow his recent declaration of a "crime emergency" in Washington, DC, which put the Metropolitan Police Department under federal control and saw 800 National Guard troops deployed to patrol the city streets.
